Weekly Update: March 4, 2019

Staff Professional Development:

We DO meet as a staff this week. Please help your colleagues be in room 23 at 1:40. We will discuss final ELPAC reminders/procedures (March 11-15) and spend time thinking/planning for changes to our routines and procedures with our new furniture.

ELPAC Administration Grades 2-6- March 11-15):

During the week of March 11-15, students who are English Learners in grades 2-6 will participate in the ELPAC assessment. 

Monday- ELD happens- regular day. Tuesday- Thursday) NO ELD groups Friday ELD happens

Tuesday (Listening), Wednesday (Reading) and Thursday (Writing)

Reminders for ELPAC Assessors:

By Friday 3/8, cover your walls/ take down instructional supports.

DO NOT use your cell phone ever when administering the ELPAC (all state assessments). Call the office for help

There have been recent news reports on the Momo Challenge, a form of cyberbullying said to be prevalent on social media platforms such as WhatsApp and YouTube. Momo messages allegedly compel youngsters to engage in perilous activities such as taking pills, stabbing other people, and even killing themselves.

While there is strong reason to believe the Momo Challenge is overblown, word of the Momo Challenge is now so widespread that whether or not it represents a real threat, the subject has generated rumors that in themselves can be cause for concern among children. Tell your students that Momo is NOT real and that they have nothing to worry about. Please see me if you need support or have other questions.

TK-2 should use the SBUSD District Performance Tasks which can be found in Illuminate. 3-6th grade may use either the CAASPP Interim Assessments OR the SBUSD District Performance Tasks. Please complete ALL performance task experiences before Spring Break.

CAASPP LABELS– Labels with student SSID and other testing information can be found in Illuminate in a report named “CAASPP Labels” (creative, I know…). When you open the report, click on “Labels” on the tool bar in the grey banner then click “Download”. You can print directly to label sheets or print to regular paper and adhere them to an index card. THESE ARE SECURE TESTING MATERIALS, and should be locked up nightly.

Smarter Balanced Blueprint and Release Questions:

As we move into CAASPP season (weel, spring break first), I wanted to share the resources below. As you are facilitating Interim Assessments, you may also want to use some of the CAASPP release questions in your math instruction as problems of the day or number talks.  These might also be tools for you to use when you meet with your grade level teams.

Thanks to RoseAnn for coordinating our efforts, Dave, Erika, Holli and student council for supporting and Aranzazu for preparing our certificates!
We will kick off the week with a, slightly, extended flag salute.
Spirit Days

Monday- Cat in the Hat- A sombrero, a cap, or even a beret—It’s a “Wear Any Kind of Hat” special day!

Tuesday- If I Ran the Zoo- Lions ROAR and cows go MOO! Wear an animal themed shirt, animal ears, or animal tails too!

Wednesday- Wacky Wednesday- Polka dots, plaid, mis-matched clothing too: Funky hairstyles and crazy socks will do! Dress your wackiest!

Thursday- Oh! The Places You’ll Go! – I’ve been here, I’ve been there, I wish I could go everywhere! Wear a shirt representing a place you have visited or a place you would like to go (college)!

Friday- My Many Colored Days- Emory is awesome and blue is so bright! Wear your favorite color or Pride shirt, it’ll be out sight!


Classroom Doors Should Always Be Locked:
To ensure your safety and the safety of the students in our care, please keep your classrooms doors locked and if you choose, use the door blocks to allow for students to come and go without knocking. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please submit a work order if your door block does not function properly.
