Staff Meeting:

We DO NOT meet as a staff this week. Our next Staff PD is November 7th.

Number Talks Resources:

The Math TOSAs created a website with resources for Number Talks. It has power point slides created for the various number talks for each grade level span and includes the title of the strategies for each of the mathematical topics that are in the actual book.
Make sure you click on your grade level, which is found at the top of the page in a light gray color.

  3. Analyze two possible resources for alignment to our beliefs/knowledge
  4. Test out sample lessons in our classrooms
  5. Offer insight, feedback and recommendations to the Learning and Innovation Team

Teachers will be compensated with out of contract pay for attendance at meetings.  If you are interested in participating in this group, please complete the interest form HERE no later than Monday, October 22ndTENTATIVE dates of meetings will be November 6th, November 13th, and December 6th from 3:30-5:00.  If selected, you will be contacted by Learning and Innovation.  Please understand the need to keep this group a manageable size.  We will do our best to ensure most sites are represented and there is equal participation among grades K-2.

TC Test Prep Unit/Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments Grades 3-6:

I feel like we always get to March and think, I wish I began using the Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments (or this past year) the TC Test Prep Unit much earlier in the year. Here is your reminder to think about how you might use these resources/ provide access to our students more strategically earlier this school year. Let me know if you have any questions/need support accessing these tools.

  • INTERIM ASSESSMENT ROSTERS– Rosters have been updated for the current year. Here is the link to the Interim Assessment User Guide.
    • PLEASE complete all Interim Assessments by Spring Break. Do not use Interim Assessments after Spring Break as test prep. Use the practice and training test for test prep.
    • PLEASE submit a work order for ANY technical issues you experience at all, and please try to include as much information as possible.
  • WAYS TO BUILD IN TEST PREP THROUGHOUT THE YEAR-

    • Model and foster rereading
    • Practice getting “the gist” all the time
    • Genre matters, approach each one differently and teach the strategies
