Critical Mentor Text Survey- due Feb 2:

We discovered this week that there are a few critical mentor texts at upper grade levels (perhaps primary, too). Please spend time at PLC next week (Jan 29-Feb 2) and identify any mentor texts which you would prefer that lower grade levels not read. We will share this information with all grade levels and ask that you refrain from sharing these texts with you students. The nice thing about this is that there are many fantastic books in the world!! Please email me your grade level list by Feb 2.

Stand Up To Bullying/Kindness Week:

Thank you Holli, Dave and Student Council for coordinating Stand Up To Bullying Week/Kindness Challenge. We will be celebrating a week of kindness and anti-bullying the week of January 29th.  Studies have shown that the most effective way to reduce bullying in schools is to promote kindness and teach kids to be kind citizens.

We’ll have spirit days each day to help embrace kindness. That flyer is attached, but the gist of it is:

Mon. 1/29       Team Up Against Bullying- Jersey Day

Tues. 1/30       Round-Up Kindness- Country Western Wear

Wed. 1/31       Peace, Love, and Kindness- Hippie Day

Thurs. 2/1        Ride the Wave of Kindness- Surfer/Beach Day

Fri. 2/2            We Stand United against Bullying- Emory T-shirts/colors

The classes (one primary/one upper) with the highest percentage of participants each day will receive a Rock ‘N Roll Recess Friday afternoon. Please send me the number of students participating in spirit days along with the total number of students in your class so that I can calculate the percentage. For example: 23/30

Also included for this week, students are encouraged to participate in a kindness challenge. The Kindness Checklist is linked, but I will place a hard copy in your box so that you may make copies for your students. Once a student completes at least 30 of the 50 challenges, collect the paper and they will earn a kindness coin (more details to come).

During lunch, students will sign committing to make Emory a kind place.

Classroom Library Book Order- due Feb 7:

Once again the District has provided money to support the growth of classroom libraries. Some of you need books more desperately than others. Feel free to decline the resource if you feel like your library is sufficient. Each grade level has a budget of $750. By Feb 7, please email me details about your requested books. You may identify shelves of books which you would like from the Heinemann (link below), you may decline the books, or you may request specific types of books (example-non-fiction levels k-l, or fiction level r-t fantasy etc).

District On- Demand Writing Assessment:

On Tuesday, March 6th, you will administer the Narrative On-Demand writing prompt. Using the same prompt will allow you and your teams and students to have conversations around progress. Directions will be the same as the one completed in August.
